As part of a sustainable residential quarter on the former BUGA exhibition grounds, a timber-framed point house with 17 rental apartments was built within just two years. The building is part of the innovative BUGA 2023 model housing project, which sets new standards for environmentally friendly construction. The walls and ceilings of the upper floors are made entirely of wood – as is the facade cladding, which is not only recyclable but also creates a pleasant indoor climate. For fire safety reasons, only the basement and the stairwell were constructed of concrete. The uniform wooden facade cleverly integrates both the balustrades of the loggias and the window guards – a sophisticated design that lends the building a modern, harmonious aesthetic. Sustainable living at its finest – in the heart of Mannheim.
